Zhao Yinan at YIMC
Created in memory of the distinguished violinist and composer Eugene Ysaÿe, YIMC was founded in 2018 by Elena Lavrenov and Ashot Khachatourian as a platform for young musicians from all around the world to compete at the highest levels, showcasing their talent and developing culture. The chairman of the jury this year is Daniel Weissmann, the general manager of Liège Royal Philharmonic orchestra.

This is the first time YIMC has returned back to offline format after the COVID-19 pandemic. The preselection and semifinal rounds took place online early this year, and the final round took place offline in Ysaÿe’s hometown Liège, Belgium. Among the 14 final-round contestants from 7 countries of the senior division, Zhao Yinan stood out with his excellent performance and won high praise from the jury. This is also the first time that a Chinese violinist has won both the first prize and Ysaÿe Prize in YIMC, surpassing the achievements of previous Chinese prizewinners.
