On Oct. 26th, 2019, the 12th China Music Golden Bell Competition came to the end in Chengdu. Violinist Dang Huali, sponsored by the Yu Art Foundation (YAF), won the first place of the violin group competition with her outstanding performance. Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that among the twelve violin contestants shortlisted for the Golden Bell Competition this year, six ones were granted loans of violins from YAF to aid them in the competition.

Dang Huali, the first doctoral degree candidate in the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) as well as in China, receives violin on long-term loan from YAF. Since 2018, she has been playing on a top 1979 violin by the Italian master luthier Ansaldo Poggi kindly lent by YAF and has performed with this violin in several concerts in and outside CCOM. During the Golden Bell Competition this year, she also used this violin and gained the first prize.
The 1979 violin was made by Ansaldo Poggi at the age of 86. This violin was purchased by from the famous Athenian violinist Leonidas Kavakos, who addresses in the letter to Mr. Yu, ‘It is the best sounding violin of this maker that I have played and a truly wonderful concert instrument.’

The Golden Bell Award is the only national-level, comprehensive music award as well as the most authoritative award in the music field in China. After seven days’ fierce competition of intermediary contests, semifinals and finals, the top five winners of the violin, erhu, vocal (folk) and vocal (bel canto) groups will be awarded the Golden Bell Awards.
